Mxmtoon has dropped ‘Lessons’, one of the singles from her upcoming debut EP of the same name. The 19-year-old artist has a gift for creating addictive, bouncy soundscapes. This track combines deep, pulsating beats with unusual timbres that wander around the stereo field, before exploding into the thick texture of the chorus. Above these unique accompaniments, Mxmtoon adds her versatile lead vocal. It sits in the middle of its range during the verse, before exploding into an uplifting falsetto during the incredibly catchy chorus. She explains the background to writing the track: “My mind constantly runs rampant with questions about myself, my relationships, and my place in the world. One thing I’ve tried to be better at as the years have gone by though, is letting go. The ability to let yourself live in the moment rather than worrying all the time can be difficult, but to remember that each day is simply an opportunity to grow and learn is a lesson we all have to face”.
